It is the end of February and there is 35 days until the park opens. The park is looking better and better by the day. Kings Dominion has been doing a lot of work to make sure the park looks amazing for their 40th celebration.
Today (February 28th) the park released two things: a new construction update and the official details of the new Pin Trading Program.
Front Entrance
New floral planter located at the front of the park
This was never announced, but the front of the park will be receiving a brand-new floral planter. Could we see a floral Kings Dominion logo planted here?
Fountains
New pipe system for the new fountain system
While not much can be seen, I think it is safe to say that there will be a lot of water traveling through these pipes for the new fountains.
Start off with the vibrant lights and sounds of Snoopy’s Starlight Spectacular and the stunning water and light displays of our fully refurbished International Street Fountain.
This quote is from the Dominion at Dusk’s page. I think this confirms that Dominion at Dusk will feature more than just a light and fireworks show, but also a brand new fountain show! Because we don’t have a solid background, I don’t think we will be able to see the projections used in Canada’s Wonderland’s night time show.
New Soda Shop
Construction has begun on the new concept restaurant which will feature Coca-Cola Fountain and Floats, Malts, Hand Dipped Ice Cream, and Flavored Sodas.
This is something new that hasn’t been announced. A new concept restaurant which will have Coca-Cola Fountain and Floats and feature Malts, Hand Dipped Ice Cream and Flavored Sodas.
Candy Apple’s
Not too much to see, but more work, none-the-less.
There isn’t much to see here. As you can see, there is more work going into these
giant candy apples that will be along side the pathways in the newly renovated Candy Apple Grove.
The Singing Mushrooms
From the sounds of it, the eyes will be animated!
The tree stump is about ready to be painted!

yesterday. These molds are coming along very nicely and look to be ready for the first coat of paint!
Floral Clock
The floral clock will return to its original spot at the end of the center street.
The new floral clock has gotten a lot bigger since we saw it last! This clock will tell the time accurately and can be clearly seen from the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Carousel
The original ticket booth that was built for the Carousel before it was at Kings Dominion is being refurbished and will be coming back to the Carousel.
Kings Dominion has done an amazing job refurbishing this very old ticket booth!
Ruby (NEW)
Naylor Finishes is the local Richmond company helping restore the Carousel which first began operation in 1917. The carousel has 66 horses and 2 cherub chariots. This season marks the second season in the multi-year renovation project to repaint and repair all of these horses. I suggest looking through their Facebook album to read more about what took place during the restoration of Ruby.
Here is Ruby in the 2013 season.

The newly painted sash looks amazing!
The saddle really shines!
Anaconda
This ride looks completely different with a fresh coat of paint!
I have to say that my only complaint about this is that it blends in with Intimidator 305. Otherwise, this classic ride is looking phenomenal!
Volcano: The Blast Coaster
Work has continued on Volcano. These improvements are also to help improve how many riders can ride per hour.
More work has been done to the outside queue structure. It looks like some work has been done to the concrete next to the queue line. Notice some new paneling underneath the queue line. I suspect this is where the new entrance will be.
The Official Pin Collector Program
The brand new pin collecting pin will start when the park opens and you can purchase all of the pins and a “starter kit” at Starlight Gifts located at the park’s main entrance. This kit includes: a 40th celebration lanyard (which can hold your season pass), 40th celebration pin, Old Dominion Line Train pin, and a Safari and Monorail pin. Each of these items can be purchased separately if desired. Some of these pins are exclusive pins and can only be obtained by trading a previous pin with a park associate. See below for more details.

So, I guess taking photos off the KD facebook is a blog now? Tell us something we don’t know…
Why is there a triforce in the first carousel picture… on the grey machine on the right hand side?
